George Ryder is not included on any of the records of the Commonwealth War Graves Commission or those of Soldiers Died in the Great War, but he has now been included on the London War Memorial after being contacted by Douglas Rowe with the following information:- He was born 1878 in Cheshire and in 1895 enlisted in the Northamptonshire Regiment (No 4738). He served 16 years, before being discharged in1911 when his family had been living in Silvertown since 1907/08. He enlisted again in Canning Town in September 1914 in the 8th Northamptonshire Training Battalion (No 3/10662) in which he served until July 1916 when he transferred to Military Police (No P/5810), and arrived in France in March 1917. He was hospitalised in Le Havre in July 1918, returned home and was discharged in January 1918 before dying of stomach cancer in May 1918. |
